Condensation is simple science. Warm air inside your building holds moisture. When that air touches cold metal, the moisture turns back into water, right on the steel. Then it drips on your tools, your truck, your tractor, your feed, or whatever you’re storing.
Temperature swings make it worse. An uninsulated barn is too cold to work in all winter, drips through every thaw, and bakes all summer. The building isn’t broken. It just has nothing between you and the weather.
What Closed-Cell Spray Foam Does Differently
For metal buildings we reach for closed-cell foam. It goes directly onto the steel, and it changes how the whole building behaves:
- Air sealing. The foam expands into every rib, seam, and gap, so wind stops whistling through the building.
- R-value. You get a real thermal barrier between you and that thin steel skin.
- Condensation control. When warm air can’t reach cold metal, condensation has nowhere to form. That’s how you stop the drip.
- Rigidity. Closed-cell cures dense and hard, and it bonds to the panels, adding stiffness to the building.
- It stays put. No sagging, no settling, no gaps opening up over time.

Will spray foam stop my pole barn from sweating?
Yes. Condensation forms when warm, moist air reaches cold metal. Closed-cell spray foam seals directly to the steel so that warm air never touches the cold panel, which is what stops the drip.
Open-cell or closed-cell for a metal building?
Closed-cell. It resists moisture, packs more R-value into less thickness, and adds rigidity by bonding to the panels. Open-cell is better suited to interior walls and sound control.
